I really wanted to like this one, but it just ended up feeling like another generic horror movie that never found its footing. The biggest issue for me was that it simply wasn't scary. There were a few cheap jump scares that got a reaction out of me, but there was never any real sense of dread or tension. I never actually felt afraid, which is something I always hope for with a horror film. It also felt like the movie didn't know what it wanted to be. One moment it was leaning into horror, then comedy, then action, then thriller, constantly pulling me in different directions. It reminded me of the older Evil Dead films in the sense that it was trying to blend multiple genres together, but it never came close to pulling it off with the same confidence or charm. The tone just felt inconsistent, and none of those elements were executed strongly enough to stand on their own. The gore is undeniably brutal, but gore alone has never been enough to make me enjoy a horror movie. It needs atmosphere, tension, or something beneath the surface to give it substance, and I just don't think this had it. That said, I wasn't bored. There were a handful of genuinely funny moments, and I stayed engaged from beginning to end. I just never connected with it the way I was hoping to, which ultimately made this a pretty disappointing entry for me.

Boogie Nights was just incredible. This is one of those movies where everything seems to come together perfectly. The soundtrack is absolutely flawless and honestly one of the best I've ever heard in any film. Every song felt perfectly placed and added so much energy and emotion to every scene. I also thought Mark Wahlberg gave a fantastic lead performance, and the supporting cast was just as impressive. PTA assembled an incredible ensemble of characters who all felt distinct, memorable, and genuinely interesting in their own ways. I stayed invested in every single storyline from beginning to end, which is a rare accomplishment for a movie with such a large cast. The pacing never dragged for a second, and I was completely engaged the entire runtime. One thing I really loved was how much it reminded me of The Wolf of Wall Street. The rise and fall character arc gave me a very similar feeling, but Boogie Nights still manages to carve out its own identity. The ending was the perfect payoff. I loved how it tied everything together and reinforced what the film was really about... finding identity, purpose, and a place to belong, even after losing everything else. An easy 5 stars and one of PTA's very best.
