Sexy Beast
I love this movie, I think the directing is great, the dialogue was on-point, extremely sharp and without relent furthering the characterisation of the respective individuals in the film. The performances from Ben Kingsley was astounding. The latent violence and intensity that Kingsley had behind every word, facial twitch, head turn, hand motion was utterly brilliant; he commands every scene and interaction like a King with his peasants. Winstone does an equally amazing job of conveying his powerlessness over his situation, both amusing and nerve-wracking to witness throughout + the extra risk he took in skimming from the heist for his wife is the cherry on cake for the strength of their relationship which isn’t a nice change of beat from similar counterparts; all the cast delivered great performances but special shoutout to Ian McShanes’s Teddy Bass who seemed untouchable and all-knowing, the delivery of his lines in the final third was just chef’s kiss The movie does have faults and lull points but overall it was unquestionably entertaining to see the plot unfold.
