Phantom Thread
Immaculate, haunting but also oddly comforting. PTA is a genius, the amount of attention to detail here is frightening, the scratching of the plates, the costume design and the incredible score from Johnny Greenwood made this incredibly well paced gothically romantic power struggle go by in a flash and no one can convince me that it isn’t a comedy.
Daniel Day is, predictably, faultless. I can't shake the suspicion that Reynolds's process is a mirror of DD’s in real life - it’s all very meta. Vicky Krieps is equally as good they certainly matched each others freak, I’ve also got a lot of time for Lesley Manville and was that… Dawn Sutcliffe?
