Amadeus
Amadeus (1984)
this movie made me want to stand up and start a slow clap… alone… in my living room… in a powdered wig i don’t own.
amadeus is pure cinematic opera. milos forman took what could’ve been a dusty period drama and gave it life, madness, and fart jokes. tom hulce as mozart? a chaotic little genius with the laugh of a drunk hyena and the hair of an electrocuted sheep. iconic.
and F. murray abraham’s salieri is basically the patron saint of bitter haters. you almost feel bad for the guy, but then you remember he’s literally beefing with God because MOZART’S BETTER AT MUSIC. LIKE BRO, TAKE THE L...
the costume design? lavish. the soundtrack? a nonstop playlist of Mozart bangers!!!!
and that final act? GOOSEBUMPS. REAL, ACTUAL GOOSEBUMPS. i felt like i’d just been emotionally uppercut by a piano. this isn't just a movie. it’s a melodramatic, powdered-wigged, symphonic experience and i loved every second of it:))
