*as far back as i can remember, i always wanted to be… way too anxious to be a gangster. * scorsese really woke up one day and said, “what if i made the most entertaining, stylish, morally unhinged descent into crime ever and made it feel like a rollercoaster directed by cocaine itself?” and then he did. OH also, shoutout to the last 30 minutes which feel like an anxiety attack scored by helicopters and sauce-stirring. that’s not a complaint. that’s art. this movie makes crime look fun… until it absolutely doesn’t. which is why it’s a masterpiece.
