Phantom Thread

how do I rate this a thousand stars? the "kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick," RUINED AND FIXED SOMETHING IN ME. give me this love now! I have never been more hypnotized by a movie, and the more I think about it, the more I appreciate its genius.
there is something awfully delicate and seductive about Reynold's and Alma's dynamic, a push and pull, and an exchange of power that is slowly built up and foreshadowed beautifully. love is earth-shattering, it’s a sacrifice, the forsaking of control and routine to bend to the pull of your lover.
Alma is absolutely gorgeous and stunning in this movie, everything about her character is intentional and driven, challenging and pushing back where others would’ve yielded. looking back, nothing about that act was sudden or done for shock value. it was well thought-out and perfectly fitting for her character. all of Phantom’s Threads’ scenes feel like it’s building up to something, whether it be the occasionally long shots on a character’s expression or the magnificent score, all of it feels like a kettle boiling over and waiting to explode.
the last twenty minutes of this were nothing short of life-changing and utter perfection. the tension without words and silent observation, the challenge in his eyes before he took a bite of the omelette and chewed slowly as he stared into her eyes. the dialogue, the kiss. ALL OF IT WAS PERFECT. it has changed my brain chemistry for the better and showed me just how tender love can be. oh, to be poisoned by your lover and held in their arms while they nurse you to wellness.
also, I can't be the only one who thinks Vicky Krieps and Hannah Dodd look so similar
