Boogie Nights
This is one of those films where if you call it a movie it sounds wrong. Marvel movies are movies, this is a film.
This has probably one of the best cinematography ever. Everything in this is just displayed perfectly. The tone of color just absolutely elevates the whole atmosphere. As soon as the “Boogie Nights” neon sign came on, I knew I was about to see some of the greatest colors and cinematic elements ever. The switch on New Years from ‘79 to 1980 was just brilliant, and after that the whole tone was changed. All of PTA’s scripts are amazing, and there’s almost never a moment where you think something doesn’t fit. They always feel so life-like.
The way the characters acted in the beginning and middle verse the end was painful but in a good way. It’s like Goodfellas in the sense of the collapse of the industry, where in the beginning everything is going great and the characters are doing good compared to the downfall in the end. I mean in the last 30 or so minutes of this, I get goosebumps and am on the furthest edge of my seat, it’s just amazing.
The acting in this was great across the board. If Mark Wahlberg did more films like this and The Departed, he would’ve had a much better and more notable career. I also really enjoyed the Don Cheadle side storyline.
I honestly wasn’t expecting such a great movie walking in to this, but it was.
