Psycho
Anthony Perkins is one handsome man and wow does he smash his role out of the park. Owls being one of my favourite things I feel inclined to love his character. Not too fond of taxidermy though.
The plot loses itself and then finds itself again in it's entirety on the surface but to begin with I don't think it was never about the money. The love interest aspect is also lost but it's neither here nor there.
Watching this I can tell that this is the inspiration and laid the groundwork for major modern slasher titles. Being one of the first of it's kind it happens to subvert many tropes that are present in modern slashers which I find quite intriguing. A good delve into the psychological aspect of why what takes place does take place is nothing short of what I'd expect out of a Hitchcock picture. He loves a bit of that and quite frankly it is a major reason I enjoy his works. The twists and the buildup are great maybe one or two have minor flaws or questions that could genuinely be asked but overall they are brilliant I think Polanski's Rosemary's Baby drew on the whole tension within the unsuspected world aspect and did it 100x better. I think the camera work gets a bit goofy one time in particular I think everyone will know what I'm talking about after seeing it. But for a movie from this period it should be applauded for the effort. This is another picture which I genuinely believe wouldn't be better and probably would even be worse in colour the monochrome grading doesn't subtract a thing. Oh, I even forgot to mention but I'll add it here the introspective thought from many characters is a beautiful addition which I don't see done much in a lot of modern titles and I thought it was really cool it added to the suspense quite a bit.
