Pearl
after this rewatch, this hit me hard. this is real horror, being stuck in a place that you can’t call home, a place where you can’t be yourself, being always be told to be strong and selfless and also never experiencing a proper life in the years that are told to be your young life. Pearl is amazing, both the movie and the character can be interpreted in so many ways. From my perspective, this is a story of a girl becoming a woman, trying to be a star but ends up stuck with the life she is told to have, in the hardest way, But always having to make up for it and use it for good. When i first watched it, i didn’t get this kind of an experience, i loved it but i didn’t feel it hard enough. After this rewatch, i feel more..horrified, and i relate (not the murderous part) this movie has changed me a bit.
As for the other things, i loved the Complex characters, amazing cinematography, it’s amazing. the pacing could have been better but i give it 5 stars because this one small pacing issue didn’t affect my experience. Mia goth deserves her flowers for this role, and i will be upset over her not even getting an Oscar Nomination for her role. Overall, this movie deserves its hype but if you don’t like it, you don’t.
