The Fall
Comprehensively one of the best a story has ever been told
I could hardly begin to talk about this without addressing the way this looks
A stampede of visual marvels
Each frame felt like being smothered by beauty
Outstanding
A conquest to locate the most breathtaking compositions of each and every beam of light that leaves the screen
An escapade for flickers of beauty to cover each moment which fills the screen
The film feels like a mission
Like some divine task for these artists to perform in this way
Not just the actors, but every crew member too
Every set piece and painted wall, each corner and fold of a costume, every chord strained and choked from a violin
Everything is set in place to produce art only film is capable of
But I can say that about many films I love already, so why is this so different?
The story.
I feel what I've said until now made this film sound quite intense, but it’s not so much so
A child’s imagination captured so intricately and introduced fluently, as if the directed were a child themselves
Instantly recognisable and fresh
Something relatable and still so new to the art of film it feels
It’s so sweet and cute, which allows for the humour to come across so kindly
So if it’s all fun and games then ?
Not quite.
The other half of the story follows a wounded man’s fracturing mental state
The two parts of the story blend and feed into each other in a way that can be imagined but hardly comprehended outside of this story
It is glorious and heartbreaking
The child’s ignorance permits the hurt of the story to be digested in a way that is half guilty from the destruction of innocence and half redeemable and hopefully in the wonder of a child’s positivity
All round it is just fabulous
I wish I could muster better words to do this justice, but see it all for yourself
My attempts surely can’t live up to it
On top of that the best opening ever of any film ever and a beguiling solemn ending that sums up the films entirety better than I could’ve expected
Incredible wonder of film
