Love this movie. Nostalgic for me in a perfect way. Shows a time and place that’s gone now. Reminds me of friends and places that feel tangible despite the fun and loud heightened world here. The sound and breakneck pace of this move give it such a lean mean figure. Those choices make it the best modern carpenter style film ever made. The carpenter feeling is helped by the on the nose funny mockery of the us military. (I seriously love this Simon thank you makes me laugh everytime when the lonely kid starts thanking David for all of his services throughout the movies run time). It’s got a perfect balance of action, horror, and humor. Maika excels at pushing scenes forward.
Every smaller role gets a great beat or line to kill on, and the main cast all have 3 solid moments to really display their talent. Dan Steven’s is a absolute triumph and steals the camera in every sense of the word. Amazing hard work to get there. This movie makes its budget look double what it actually was and on such a tight schedule. Beautiful fun filmmaking meant for us, the kids who love to laugh and be entertained.
RIP LANCE.
