Silence
Martin Charles Scorsese. Martin mother fucking absolute cinema Charles Scorsese. You are hands down the greatest single director to have ever lived. This was absolutely fucking phenomenal man.
One of the most spiritually challenging and emotionally devastating films I have ever seen. Martin Scorsese strips away all spectacle and forces you to confront the raw essence of belief, doubt, and the human cost of faith. Every frame feels purposeful. The acting was phenomenal. Andrew Garfield got nominated for an Oscar for a 2016 movie, but NOT THIS ONE? DAMN. I mean his performance in Hacksaw Ridge was good and all, but this is easily the best performance of his entire career. Adam Driver and Liam Neeson were fantastic. Captivating, each representing different paths faith can take under persecution. The cinematography is nothing short of breathtaking. misty mountains, rain‑soaked villages, and the stillness of the Japanese coast create an atmosphere that feels both serene and suffocating.
I will 1000% be rewatching Goodfellas, because I need to know if this actually does top it in comparison.
