Stalker
I have not felt this same since finishing this movie. There’s something so specific about what “the zone” brings up for me that I can’t explain with words yet.
This movie contains secrets essential to being human, that we aren’t able to talk about even if we wanted to. It must be shown, it must be described in silent 1 minute shots. It goes against everything we agree on in reality as humans, but follows it exactly.
The imagery is the best imagery I have ever seen in a movie.
This script is really really good. The Russians know how to describe certain things that Americans aren’t good at in art.
It reminds me of the string breaking moment in “the cherry orchard” where something distant in reality snaps for a second, everyone hears it, and no one talks about it.
Stalker has stained itself into my mind. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about something like this since watching the mirror scene in Harry Potter.
I wish every movie made me feel this way, but I’m glad it doesn’t.
edit: I am embarrassed by this review
