Longlegs
Watching this in the theatre with tornado sirens going off in the background made this experience all the better.
Cursed, haunted, and bleak, "Longlegs" traps you in its ghostly world from the minute the film opens. It certainly achieves its aim, evoking feelings of dread, despair, and hopelessness throughout its runtime. Whether it's Nic Cage's disturbingly uncanny performance as Longlegs, Maika Monroe's off-kilter portrayal of Harker, or thrilling cinematography that lingers on the shadows in every shot, the film does a masterful job of keeping you on edge.
"Longlegs" may not be the next "Silence of The Lambs" or "Se7en", but that doesn't diminish it's quality. It certainly riffs off classics of the genre but it delivers an atmosphere reminiscent of "Hereditary" or the better parts of "Sinister". I still thoroughly enjoyed "Longlegs" and would recommend it even if it didn't exactly live up to what the marketing promised.
