Get Out
Spoilers
Get Out is much more than a typical horror film purely curated for our entertainment. Though it does that incredibly well in my eyes, the suggestive tone of the film perfectly balanced the witty symbolism at the end of this masterpiece.
The entire film was ominous right from the very beginning without cause. The family that Chris, a black man (which is vital to the plot) visited the family of his white girlfriend. They were the stereotypical rich white family and made suggestive remarks about Chris. I found the creepy sense that I got from the other black people working at the house was forboding from the minute we see them.
When the true aim of the white family was revealed, I thought that was mad. This is where the real horror film began. I never thought I would be considering the ways that their brutal deaths were justifiable, but they were truly awful in their actions.
On top of that, we see Chris surrounded by corpses as a police car arrives at the scene and we realise that he is powerless without evidence, implying at neverending cycle. Chris's girlfriend asking for "help" adds to this and it is relieving to see that it was his friend who was suspicious of the events that took place in the vicinity.
Get Out is an incredible film and scratches the itch of entertainment while also giving the audience the chance to think deeper about the atrocities of racism by bringing it to another level.
