Terrifier 3
On this rewatch I couldn’t help but admire how this film looks, it’s shot with anamorphic lenses and it’s beautiful to look at. All the blacks are deep and the reds really pop (on the lights, art’s Santa costume and obviously the blood and gore) and the camera work is fantastic too, it’s also got plenty of film grain which also adds to the vibe and feel of the film massively, It’s honestly so cool seeing how Damien leone’s improved over the years with every single aspect of his film making. I also wanted to talk about the opening, which is also fantastic and one of my favourites put to screen. It was a really smart decision to have the audience spend about 5 minutes with the family before art the clown dressed as Santa pays them a visit, it’s the perfect amount of time to spend with them and it makes it more impactful when art the clown brutally hacks them all to pieces with an axe. Another controversial topic about this is the idea that art the clown was also going to be killing children in this, I knew these scenes wouldn’t be nearly as brutal as the other deaths in this film but they’re still pretty shocking, with us seeing the bodies afterwards and it’s obviously not a pretty sight (Timmy in the beginning being a perfect example of this). I see why Damien leone did this, it makes art unpredictable and pretty frightening again, letting us know that nobody’s safe. Will be on the yearly Christmas viewing rotation from now on
