Alien
Got the chance to catch this in theatre! Pure electricity. Easily one of my favorite theatre experiences in a long time for easily one of my favorite movies ever.
This movie is just perfect to me. One of the most immersive movies ever to me, it spends so much time plunging you into the atmosphere, and long shots of random sci fi technology is like crack to me. 2 minutes of a ship flying and then landing slowly? More!
The special effects and production design is just astounding and holds up beautifully. Embarrasses most modern science fiction. This specific sci fi aesthetic is my favorite thing in the world. GIVE ME RANDOM BUTTONS AND PANELING AND 80S ERA COMPUTER SCREENS OR I DONT WANT IT. SLEECK SCI FI IS OUT, CHUNKY SCI FI IS HERE TO STAY.
Ripley is obviously one of my favorite protags ever, played so naturally by Sigourney Weaver.
This is easily one of my favorite movies ever from a visual standpoint, too. Especially in theatre, so many shots that I just need injected directly into my veins. The lighting is astounding, the sound is wonderful, there is just simply no notes to this movie. Looks so clean and crisp.
There is just so much to love about this movie. Perfectly paced, perfectly executed. Legitimately scary. I’m so sorry magnolia but I think this has to take your spot. Damn you Letterboxd, give me five spots! Why do you make me treat magnolia this way! I’m going to have to make an extended favs list just to make me not feel as bad. I just could watch this movie any day of the week.
Being one of the best horror movies of all time and one of the best sci fi movies of all time simultaneously is crazy, man. Perfection.
