Bones and All
Do it Maren I want you to eat me, I want you to feed bones and all……. faaaaaaak such a beautiful moment gets me everytime.
Years ago when I first watched this movie i instantly remember feeling like the cannibalism felt like a metaphor for addiction and hereditary addiction traits. The way they are eaters both Maren and Lee and they got it from one of their parents just like how people that have addict parents usually have a more addictive personality. The way as both you end up hurting people even if you don’t want to you hurt the ones around you and yourself especially when trying to quit like how Marens mom ends up, and the overall outcastsness of it all you band with other addicts and meet a lot who can be nice people or evil people even ones that don’t have to do it they don’t have to eat but do it anyways to join in on something you might not have control over. The whole journey being a self discovery that I feel everyone at a young age always feels lost in this case the quest to find her mom was just her not being able to accept who she i, its not till she finds her that she fully accepts herself and the way she wants to live to have a different outcome.
Which brings me to Sully, the way he finds Maren introduces her to the eating way at a time she is clearly the most vulnerable and instead of being a good role model he takes advantage of it. He thinks well if we are both eaters clearly just for that she will want me after I shower and share a meal with her such a chud thing where he literally stalks her and preys on her the whole film.
The romance between Lee and Maren also just felt like such a great interpretation of love and acceptance throughout the whole film they just coexist with no judgement, they don’t ask questions about each other trying to over step they let each other open up with time. It shows how hard it can be at times you won’t always see eye to eye with that person but you can choose to still accept them and meet them in the middle and loving them bones and all.
