This movie just felt like a movie inspired by prisoners but instead of being an engaging tense masterpiece about taking matter into your own hands to protect your child( obv. There is more depth to it this is just a summary) but instead just makes an insufferable family dealing with grief and taking it out on an innocent man.
It surprises me that the daughter is more emotionally mature to understand that her dad died and there was nothing he could do about it, while the mom is over here angry at him for dying for leaving them alone for not fighting the illness he had which is a trait of processing grief especially for a significant other.
Then ofc Santiago doesn’t help his case by being this trippy hippie that might’ve felt some guilt for helping the husband accept death that he is being very vague and secretive about his drug and therapeutic rituals he does for people which just makes these people already in a stressful situation lash out at the scapegoat they have. I understand the metaphor of her being like a animal trying to protect her daughter and not being able to be reasoned with but it’s absolutely psychotic they just accused and gaslight themselves into yup this weird guy took my daughter and you can’t convince me otherwise it’s frustrating for sure plus your telling me the mom needed to go thru this to now magically be ok with her husband being dead and the brother in law doesn’t even apologize at all he leaves him there ashamed of his actions all they did was stress each other out more while being frantic 😭
