Another Round

“What is youth? A dream. What is love? The content of the dream.” 2nd installment of the End of 2023 watch. I’ve decided to put on one of my all time favorite films, the Vinterberg Danish film Druk, or Another Round. Ever since I’ve watched this for the first time back in, I think March, it’s been an all time favorite of mine. Been stuck in my top 4 what feels like forever and I don’t think it’s moving any time soon. Mads Mikkelsen is damn brilliant. He’s probably in my top 10 actors of all time. Whether he’s playing one of his notorious villain roles, or a teacher resulting in drinking while having a mid-life crisis. I’ve seen 2 Thomas Vinterberg films (This & the famous 2012 movie The Hunt) and when I watch more of his stuff, he might become one of my favorite directors. This is one of the best films of the 2020 decade and no one can convince me otherwise. It’s masterful with a great story and a simple, yet impactful message. The way friendship is portrayed in this movie is really great. How four friends who have semi mediocre lives turn to drinking because it’s the only thing that can make them feel free. Great dynamics from all the four actors. The ending is one of my all time favorite endings of any movie. It just feels so, free. The final frame being Mads’ leap of faith, symbolizing how he is jumping into the unknown and the way he’s dancing at the end, symbolizing him accepting himself to be free instead of constantly torturing himself. It’s brilliant. Overall, Druk is one of my all time favorites, as I’ve already stated, and EVERYONE who hasn’t already should check it out. I will try to watch my second favorite movie oat (Banshees) later this evening, if I have time. 100/100 for 5 stars **December ranked**
