Logan
“Nature made me a freak. Man made me a weapon. And God made it last too long.”
A very grounded and emotional story of a man who’s slowly dying but has to live long enough to save a very special girl.
I found Logan to be a narrative masterpiece of story-telling the first instance I saw it. Loved the take that in a world of superheroes where there is only one remaining, is the one who didn’t want life as one to begin with, but he has to deal with it.
Hugh Jackman gave a sensational Oscar worthy performance in this gritty tale of a dying man in an already dead world. He’s accompanied by Dafne Keen, who gives an ultra excellent performance from her mean and vigorous body language, despite her character barely talking.
This film had an amazing western feel and theme to in, which makes sense because the director is the great James Mangold, who also directed 3:10 to Yuma. Mangold’s direction and approach to this film, pulling a lot of similar aspects to the famous text of Old Man Logan into this film was brilliant all around. Crafted a superb Guardian/Child relationship who has no choice but to take care of them, which in the end form an unlikely bond, which is one of the many tropes I love.
Score is also very subtle and underrated too.
Overall, despite Logan being a superhero/comic book film, it is still a masterpiece in every aspect of its being and why I have it at an 100/100 + a spot in my Top 30 films of all time. It’s more than a superhero movie, it’s a movie with strong themes of the wanting desire to end it all and remorse of his past actions whilst traveling with the mirror image of himself.
The best comic book movie (besides The Lego Batman Movie).
100/100 for 5 stars.
