The Batman
"Wednesday, November 6th. The city is under the water. The national guard is coming. Martial law is in effect, but the criminal element never sleeps. Looting and lawlessness will be rampant... in the parts of the city no one can get to. I can already see things will get worse... before they get better. And some will seize the chance to grab everything they can. I'm starting to see now, I have had an effect here, but not the one I intended. Vengeance won’t change the past. Mine… or anyone else’s. I have to become more. People need hope. To know someone’s out there for them. This city's angry, scarred, like me. Our scars can destroy us, even after the physical wounds have healed. But if we can survive them... they can transform us. They can give us the power, to endure... and the strength to fight.”
What a beautiful and special start to 2024.
My first time rewatching the 2022 masterpiece that is The Batman. And I have come to the conclusion that this (besides TLBM) is the best Batman movie. TDK does require a rewatch also but after this rewatch, I think this work of the legendary Matt Reeves’ prevails as the best.
Robert Pattinson is THE best Batman. He nailed this role perfectly. From the darkness and vengeance that is the Caped Crusader, all the way to the lonesome orphan Bruce Wayne.
I cannot fucking wait for Part II. 2025 can’t come soon enough. And believe me, Matt Reeves is cooking with Part II. Once it comes out, more people will start accepting Pattinson as the best Batman.
The cinematography in this is just fucking mesmerizing. All practical shots, even the Batmobile car chase. You can pause this movie at any moment and every frame will be beautiful. Some of the best cinematography I’ve ever seen in a comic book film.
Is it crazy to say that The Penguin is a top 5 Colin Farrell role? If not now, definitely when the show comes out. I think he nailed this role and you can’t even tell it’s him until you actually look deep. Once the Penguin show releases, people will see just how perfect Farrell plays the role.
Now for the legendary and wonderful Michael Giacchnio’s score. It captivates every scene, and just matches so well. Perfectly fits the vibe of the scenes and sets the tone of what you’re going to see and feel in the movie.
This film perfectly balances the character of Batman in my opinion. It very wells dives deeper into his detective side more than the other films in the franchise, especially since barely any other Batmen uses their detective skills (considering they are labeled the WORLDS GREATEST DETECTIVE). It also perfectly balances the action and complicated relationship of the Bat & the Cat.
I need a black & white cut of this film. I think it would fit perfectly for it, just because of the noir/rainy detective vibe to it. But keep the blood red.
I fucking love how Matt Reeves’ take on The Riddler is super inspired by the Zodiac Killer. It fits the character of Riddler so much and I can’t believe they haven’t been compared earlier. Also, the little snippet of Barry Keoghan’s Joker just gave me chills down my spine. The deleted scene is even more horrifying…
Overall, I do think that this is definitely the best Batman film and the future of this trilogy is bright and will be masterful.
99/100 for 5 stars
