The Shining
“Wendy, let me explain something to you. Whenever you come in here and interrupt me, you're breaking my concentration. You're distracting me, and it will then take me time to get back to where I was. Understand?”
“Yeah.”
“Fine. Then we're going to make a new rule. Whenever I'm in here and you hear me typing or whether you don't hear me typing, whatever the fuck you hear me doing, when I'm in here, that means that I am working, that means don't come in. Now, do you think you can handle that?”
“Yeah.”
“Good. Now why don't you start right now and get the fuck out of here? Hm?“
Now just a disclaimer, I am NOT a big horror guy so my opinions about horror movies are irrelevant. I probably wouldn’t touch this movie this soon if it wasn’t Kubrick. But, since it’s October, I’ve decided to join the trend of mainly watching horror/halloween movies.
Now, The Shining is probably one of the most iconic horror movies of all time. And I get where people are coming from.
This movie was good. Very eerie, mysterious, and creepy at times. First half was taking a bit to get into but I guess it’s fitting.
Second half didn’t really blow me away but it was really well done.
Nicholson is amazing, per usual. His performances are elite (this isn’t his best though).
I wasn’t really feeling Shelly Duvall’s performance. It was ight at most.
Couldn’t stand that fucking little kid saying “Redrum” all the fucking time, like respectfully, shut the fuck up.
Overall, it is a good movie and good for someone who isn’t the biggest fan of the horror movie genre. This movie, is in fact, overrated though. I now have 2 Kubrick movies in the overrated slot (which isn’t bad because I know i’m gonna fucking love Kubrick, going to try to watch Barry Lyndon or PoG next).
89/100 for 4 stars
