Obsession
It's honestly kind of hilarious—and deeply concerning—that this movie sparked debates over whether Bear was "actually a bad guy." Babe... did we watch the same fucking film?
Obsession disguises itself as a love story just long enough to expose how easily some people confuse obsession with devotion. That's the real trick. The horror isn't Nikki becoming monstrous; it's watching Bear repeatedly choose his fantasy over her autonomy and still expecting sympathy. Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette are fantastic, Barker directs the hell out of the tension, and the low-budget creativity never feels cheap. The lore occasionally leaves a few fingerprints behind, but the central point lands like a brick through a windshield. Bear isn't the victim of the curse. Nikki is.
