Up
This movie is basically “grandpa gets a balloon house and accidentally adopts a child” until Pixar remembers it has access to our tear ducts. 🎈
Carl and Russell are fucking adorable together because their personalities couldn't be more opposite: grumpy old man versus human golden retriever in a sash. Dug is obviously a national treasure, Kevin is serving giant colorful bird realness, and the whole Paradise Falls adventure has that perfect Pixar balance of ridiculous comedy and genuine danger.
But the reason Up hits isn't the balloons or the talking dogs. It's Carl finally realizing that his life with Ellie wasn't unfinished just because the final adventure never happened. That's the emotional kill shot. The movie knows when to be quiet, when to be stupid, and when to absolutely fucking destroy you. Gorgeous, funny, tender, and devastating without feeling emotionally cheap. Pixar really looked at grief and said, “put some balloons on that bitch.” 🎈💙
