Watership Down

this was watched for the Criterion Challenge 2025 the animation fluctuates so beautifully between charming and absolutely nightmarish. the voice acting is very nicely done, soft but perfectly capturing the franticness of rabbits. it's hard to watch violence against rabbits but this was such a beautifully done movie that i can almost forgive it. it could also just be the nostalgia factor of the animation style in general. had i watched this as a child, i may have a different view. nevertheless, i had heard capt. holly's description of the downfall of the original burrows before, and it has haunted me for years. it still holds up, too. it gave me chills as if i had just heard it for the first time.
