Good Omens
honorable mentions of moments of grief, despair and agony + symbolism:
-“You go to fast for me, Crowley”
-every moment of religious trauma ever so the whole show basically
-in the burning bookshop Crowley yells “for God’s- for Satan’s- for somebody’s sake” which shows the scale of their love for Aziraphale and how afraid Crowley was of losing them, how lost they were in their beliefs and that their mind drifted to God even after the fall
-the moment when Job is asking God the reason of what has happened to him, and Crowley fully knowing he won’t receive answers says “[…] but just to be able to ask questions…”; it’s not their fault that they have fallen and the whole thing is so gut wrenching
-referencing the statement above: "I didn't mean to fall. I just hung out with the wrong people”. notice how they look up as if they were praying.
-when Crowley was drinking in the pub and Aziraphale appeared from Heaven, they say “i lost my best friend”, then Aziraphale gets upset because they didn’t realise they were Crowley’s best friend and it was all just so gentle and heartbreaking
-the whole scene in the gazebo in the park?? crying
-“And I do remember, oh, very clearly, the look on your face, Archangel Gabriel. When you told my only friend to shut his stupid mouth and die. And I… did not… care for it.”
-“Crowley: Look, I've been thinking. What if it all goes wrong? We have a lot in common, you and me.
Aziraphale: I don't know. We may have started off as angels, but you are fallen.
Crowley: I didn't really fall. I just, you know, sauntered vaguely downwards.”
-“We've known each other a long time. We've been on this planet for a long time. I mean, you and me. I could always rely on you. You could always rely on me. We're a team, a group. Group of the two of us. And we've spent our existence pretending that we aren't. I mean, the last few years, not really. And I would like to spend... I mean, if Gabriel and Beelzebub can do it, go off together, then we can. Just the two of us. We don't need Heaven, we don't need Hell, they're toxic. We need to get away from them, just be an us. You and me, what do you say?
Come with me... to Heaven. I'll run it, you can be my second in command. We can make a difference.
You can't leave this bookshop.
Oh, Crowley. Nothing lasts forever.
No. No, I don't suppose it does. Good luck.
Good luck? Crowley! Crowley, come back, to Heaven! Work with me! We can be together! Angels... doing good! I... I need you! I don't think you understand what I'm offering you.
I understand. I think I understand a whole lot better than you do.
Well... then there's nothing more to say.
Listen. Do you hear that?
I don't hear anything.
That's the point. No nightingales. You idiot. We could have been... us.
[the most dramatic moment of the century]
I... I forgive you.
Don't bother.”
just fire a gun at me at this point
my headcannons:
-Crowley invented the culture of calling your partner “angel”
-Crowley sings “Flower of Scotland” years before the song was actually written so they basically are the author of it
-Crowley attended all Queen concerts and grieved for months after Freddie’s death
-something must’ve happened in between of the centuries we were shown because i can’t quite remember what years they were but there was a jump from them being all chill and besties to “you go too fast for me Crowley” so something had to occur (maybe some kind of confession?)
anyways i could rant about this show for days but i’m lowkey terrible at putting my thoughts into words;
that’s the kind of show that may sound stupid when someone tells you about it but it just shows how close minded they are (if someone underestimates it again without watching it i’m gonna crash out so bad). it’s so deep on so many levels; both funny and agonising
when i watched it for the first time i grieved for months and it was the only thing on my mind. nothing will ever be as dear to me
(i’ll probably write some kind of analysis or something after my next rewatch which will probably be like the 20th one xx)
