Halloween
I love this movie because even though it may not as scary now compared to how it would’ve been in the 70s, it still feels very immersive and makes you feel the fear of the characters. It is a bit of a slow burn but it only gets better as it goes along. It does a good job at hiding Michael Myers and having him pop out when you least expect it. Even though Laurie’s character started the whole only virgins survive trope, her character was a lot more interesting because watching it you can see that she does want to be more like her friends and is spending the whole film trying to mature a bit and shake off her superstition when Michael’s stalking her, but in the end it was her foresight and caution that kept her alive and Jamie Lee Curtis did a good job in portraying this character and getting across this fear. Loomis was also great because even though he was never in any immediate danger throughout the film his goal in trying to catch Michael and convince the sheriff that the threat was real, and the way he describes Michael and his relationship with him gave the insight into Michael’s character that we wouldn’t have gotten if Loomis wasn’t in the film. Which Donald Pleasance played Loomis perfectly because he was able to give the character a distinct personality and it didn’t feel like he was just there to give background into Michael but he truly seemed terrified and stressed of what Michael might do. What impresses me most about this movie is how it created the icon Michael Myers when in the film he really just walks from point A to point B kind of just like a wild animal stalking its prey, but I think it works because it adds to the mystery of him.
