The Florida Project
I didn't know what to expect when I thought about watching it. I heard people talk about it and how good it is. Took me minutes to finally find the attention to watch. I will first start by saying this film made me feel like I was presented in the image like I was on a journey with them. The height of the cam, the shot sizes, making them seem smaller; as kids, we see the world as huge til we grow up and don't see it that way.
Throughout the film, you can feel a silence. You can hear the kids' joy amid the chaos. Remind me when I was a kid, just living without thinking about anything but fun. Everything around was chaotic however I couldn't keep that on my mind. Only about having fun and enjoying my childhood.
The color was softened and popped out. Seems like most of the lighting was natural sources from the light pole, motel light, and the sunny light. That makes a film incredible by using the resources that are already there. I know some of the scenes were shot with modifiers light source or artificial lighting.
Location places were amazing. Whoever is the locate scout deserves a big award. The place's colors add a playful and colorful touch to the film.
Finally, at the end, I noticed that the frames increased and the shuttle speed. I knew it wasn't shot on film at this point. I understand that Disney Parks may not want huge cameras on this premise. That was a smart move to shoot it on an iPhone which you can bring in without trouble. That's just my best guess.
The end was unexpected.
Great film overall 7.5/10
