Normal People
painfully raw and real representation of two people struggling so much in their own lives, only finding peace with each other, yet that is not nearly enough, since their relationship has several flaws and things which were never really addressed and fixed.
i read the book last year and have slowly watched the show and i can confirm this is seriously the most depressing show i’ve seen like i wonder whether paul mescal has ever been casted as a character who was.. happy…
“i’ll go.”
“and i’ll stay.”FUCK OFFFFFFFF
seriously this show ruined my life!!!
i see a lot of people say (not just on here but elsewhere) that normal people is bad because of the toxicity of marianne and connell’s relationship, how insufferable they both are and for twelve episodes continuously meet, have sex, break up, meet again, have sex again, etc. that it is bland, and has no real meaning.
i understand that viewpoint but i also think it just shows a more realistic portrayal of how mental health affects one’s life and their ability to love, communicate, and deal with loss, and the show is ultimately in my opnion heartbreaking in that sense. i think both daisy and paul acted so well.
it was so painful to watch this and i definitely won’t be watching again, surprisingly i did not cry once reading or watching although it has left me feeling empty, but also alive. i feel like i could give this 2 stars or 5, i have given it 5 bc as someone who like feels everything so fucking deeply i like get this show sm. i understand connell and marianne deeply in different ways (but not in everything they did might i clarify.)
thank you for reading my rant i need to get back into long reviews like this!!!
