Cole Woodard

Genuinely nearly cried multiple times, just in absolute disbelief at how remarkable this film is. The costumes, the sets, the dialogue, everything is so incredibly faithful to the comics while still maintaining its own style. Sometimes I cry at night knowing that there’s a high likelihood that the Batman part 2 will be a disappointment, because however good it may be, it’s very unlikely it’s beating this masterpiece.

I felt a calling.

Hard to believe that this had a budget of just about $20,000. Mythical filmmaking.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this film and I’m happy to report that it’s held up since I’ve last seen it and since its release in 1981. Just masterful directing and some gorgeous cinematography combined with some pretty incredible action sequences, one of cinema’s most iconic characters, and a story imbued with adventure and grandiose, make for one of the most important and iconic films of all time.
