Parasite
I watched this for the first time last December 23, 2019 at a theater. Oh I miss watching movies at the theater! Anyway, the universal acclaim this has gotten has already made me interested in watching this last August 2019, but I didn’t get to watch it as it was only exclusive at the shitty theaters (SM Cinema’s ordinary theaters in the Philippines) but when it was available at the nice theaters (Ayala’s, particularly Trinoma) so I watched it! Rewatched again at home this January 2020.
Oh it was a truly extraordinary experience. That experience was nearly replicated at home, in my laptop, only losing the powerful (I don’t know how to describe it) feeling the score evokes in you. I am so so so amazed at Parasite, I think it’s a type of film I’ve never seen before: a genre-bending film. It refuses to be classified as one genre. It’s a horror, a drama, a comedy, which resulted to an outstandingly directed feat of a film. The editing is very tight, the dialogue carefully written, everything was just so good. It’s one of those films where the ensemble is truly an ensemble, there were no leading actors or actresses.
I’m so amazed at this, one of those films I wish I could watch again unspoiled. Rightfully deserves its awards, its acclaim, its box office. I’m so happy on the fame and acclaim this has gotten in my country, like almost every Gen Z or millennial has watched this, or at least knows that party scene. I’m sure I know the order of every scene, this was just truly unforgettable. I’d say Cho Yeo-jeong deserved an Oscar nomination and a win! I looked forward to her scenes, her marvelous performance was just so over the top but not that over the top, if that makes sense! Looks like I want to be a film director, thanks to Joon-Ho’s Parasite and Scorsese’s Hugo 🙈
