"And from here on out, I'm not gonna feel anything new. Just lesser versions of what I've already felt."
wow i wish i saw this earlier, but maybe it's a good thing i watched it now all grown up, but also not too grown up because i'd feel like it would haunt me comparing myself to theodore.. i can not be down bad like him when i get older.. because i already feel behind in terms of finding someone who loves me the way i love them
that sense of peace, trust, and giddiness is so rare that when it finally happens you want to experience everything with them. like show them your favorite place, learn the things they love doing, do things you would never do alone like running around in public spaces laughing hysterically like it's just you two in a room alone, and wanting to know how they are doing at every moment even if they are stuck in one place
this movie portrays every feeling and nature of love so well, the entire beach sequence with theodore and samantha... you just have to see for yourself i never had wanted to go to the beach so badly with someone i love to people watch, sunset watch, laying down on the sand smiling at each other, and just talk about whatever
from seeing a cute edit on tiktok about this movie, into now watching it i feel so manipulated, but maybe that was the purpose of the tiktok.. i get a weird ick when i hear a movie is about ai, it's really cliche but this isnt a story about ai taking over people's minds where they do inhumane things. i also really like how it's not a futuristic city, and i love the color in this movie oh my god i can not exaggerate how good it feels to see bright colors in a world that is so grey
instead we follow a man who's experienced ALL forms of love including heartbreak such as a divorce, but once he met someone so full of life he cant stop himself but be in love with them. this is how he describes his new profound love, which is a huge issue, because when you’re this dependent on someone, it becomes difficult to let go when they leave. he struggled to realize how he's wrong in saying that especially in his past relationships. theodore clearly lacks with multiple things such as not being able to commit to what he wants, and even not being able to let go which is why he struggled so hard in his marriage, and even during the divorce process. ironically the only thing that is so full of life to theodore is not human, and basically helped him realize what he wants. not some perfect person, but someone who cares for you in both challenging you uncomfortably, and supporting you while doing so. the conversations between theodore and samantha are sooo good and i’d highkey fall in love too if i talked about life like that with someone in the way they did
ALTHOUGH they portray love really well.. they also have the bad but mostly weird parts.... this movie had so many unpredictable moments where i've felt EXTREMELY uncomfortable at times from the main character, and even WITH the character. he is his own enemy. he's preventing himself from growing, and it's all due to his insecure livelihood where it's hard to feel sorry for him.. but it's hard to not feel bad for him because he is the one and only joaquin pheonix (JOKER!!) this guy can not catch a break..
the ending to me was satisfying, even if it felt slightly rushed, it works. im glad they spent a lot of time with these long shots of the views, and random strangers. so many beautiful shots of everyday life, alongside the music that genuinely gives me chills on my neck of nostalgia..
i wish this fictional character the best from now on, what a cute ending
