Marvel Zombies
My main problem with What If? was the stories they chose to tell. What If.. Killmonger rescued Tony Stark? What If… Nebula joined the Nova Corps? Yeah, what if? Who cares about these stories? You have all of these characters, and the premise of the show is that there are an infinite number of universes, and you aren’t bound by any canon or continuation. If anything can happen, why not show me something cool? It makes me angry. What If? could have been a show that lasted decades and told hundreds of awesome stories, but instead it was cancelled after three mediocre seasons.
This does a slightly better job of focusing on interesting characters and fun matchups, but as a whole Marvel has a problem understanding what people want. I don’t think they need to just stick with the core Avengers. Everyone likes new characters when they are done well, but did we need Awkwafina’s terrible side-character from Shang-Chi to be a major player in Marvel Zombies? I know this is just a silly one-off that no one cares too much about, but it’s representative of a much bigger problem. Give me a nice corner office at Marvel Studios and a big red button to veto these ideas. How is no one there understanding what is going wrong? It seems so simple.
