i hate that this movie got done so dirty. genuinely everyone needs to watch the extended cut to properly understand it.
the reason why i love this film sm is bc i can genuinely relate to it. i think the messaging gets lost of many viewers bc some ppl just dont have any imagination. when i first watched this film i was a teenage girl who was terribly depressed and guess what i did to cope? i fantasied, i daydreamed, i imagined ridiculous scenarios to distract me from what was actually going on. that is exactly whats going on in this film. if you arent someone who uses imagination to escape reality, then you arent going to relate/ understand this film.
ALSO, this movie got done so fucking wrong by the studio etc. why market a movie thats obviously very dark and deals w themes of abuse, sexual assault etc as some hot female action film for men!? WHY??? like come on the marketing was just so bloody misleading. like how jennifers body was made to be seen as 'haha come see megans fox tits', naturally ppl were disappointed and obvs fucking confused bc they got baited into watching a movie abt a teen girl being sa'ed and watching that trauma consume her.
sucker punch is NOT some video game, action hero movie. yes the scenes are cool asf, but thats not what the movie is abt and its soooo annoying that they tried to paint it that way. if they marketed this movie correctly and to the right audience (the girls and the gays), trust this movie wouldve done numbers. triple platinum, oscars all across the board. not saying men cant relate to feelings of isolation, or trauma etc but again, this movie was marketed as some sort of sex fantasy. most men who went to watch it expected to see hot girls fight, not be presented w a dark twisted, lowkey uncomfortable story.
oh sucker punch i love you. i will continue to defend this film until my dying breath and should anyone be unlucky enough to be in the same room as me, i WILL be overexplaining every aspect of this movie. ive been deep in the reddit trenches reading theories abt this film, ive researched this film more than my damn course.
