Sinners
even better the second time around. you can really appreciate the artistry in it when you know what to expect. couple of thoughts I had this time around:
- I have so much empathy for Grace and I don’t blame her for her for breaking.- Slim being able to help prevent a white man from taking another young black man must have felt so cathartic for him. the impotence and survivors guilt he must have felt and carried all those years makes my heart hurt for him.- the costumes tell a whole story in and of themselves and I really got to appreciate the details right down to the fabrics and not just the style this time around.- I still cried in all the same places I did the first time- “I want your songs. I want your stories” still gave me the fucking chills- the relationship between colonization and religion was not lost on me this time around, I feel like the first time I was so taken aback by the Our Father and that chilling scene that I didn’t fully grasp what Remmick was saying nor did I notice how symbolic the dunking bit was in comparison to a baptism.
I can’t wait to see it a third time next week!!
