Taxi Driver
I feel I should say something real so here. Travis Bickle doesn’t die for some twisted reason of fate. He is not like Patrick Bateman, living with what he knows, in fact, he seems to be doing just fine. Because all that he killed were some pimps to protect a child, the government and the media outlets hail him as a hero.
The end of the film exemplifies Travis’s exact disillusionment with society. If he had killed the president like was his intention, he would have certainly been killed by the cop. Travis is deplorable, but the cop, nor the media knows that. In fact, even though he is the farthest from any member of society at the time, he still manages to be relatable to the audience and a hero in the eyes of the characters.
Out of all the “sigma males,” Travis is the one I sympathize with the most. He has become angry and disappointed in the route that society is taking, and he spends all hours of the night watching the exact society that he detests fall apart around him.
The muck of New York City is nothing compared to the grime of that day and age. Frankly, it’s understandable why he’s mad. But what we have to draw the line at is the taking of another human life. Anyone who dies in the movie is given a gruesome death, and we have to remember that these people are just as real as me and you.
TLDR, I’m literally him.
