Memento
Hooly cinema what a movie. One of the most unique films I've ever seen which I'm pretty sure hasn't been done still atleast at this scale, it literally goes backwards.
The movie is so confusing in the best way possible, in that it's not confusing like it'll make you get disconnected from the movie or something. It's confusion which makes you intrigued on what's next, it's confusing in the way that you feel the exact same confusion. the main character does.
Talking about the main character he is such a tragic yet incredibly written character backed up by an absolutely amazing performance from Guy Pearce.
Natalie too is another character i really liked, because for the first half of the movie you like her, think she's tryna help Lenny. Until THAT scene where she tells him how she'll use him, how she can anything and he won't remember, calling his wife a whore, etc. and she instantly goes to my most hated character in the film. At that point idek who to support or like, u have Teddy(who u still think is the killer) and Natalie(who from that one scene became more hated then teddy) and you just feel hopeless seeing that Lenny is just being used and exploited by everyone.
This movie aside from the whole wife case is also a movie about Lenny trying to find any meaning, any purpose in his life after everything that has happened and his circumstances. It's him trying to cope, everything he does is him trying to cope. He's trapped himself in a case he'll make sure is never ending because the case actually ending is too uncomfortable for him, he's trying to just hide himself from the truth because it's too harsh.
And then the ending... Wow. The reveal of Teddy telling Lenny everything, the harsh truth, how he already got the actual killer like a year ago but just won't let it end. How Lenny himself is the one who tore those 12-13 pages out of the police files so the case seems unsolved. And after all that insane reveal, for Lenny to go in his car, and write on Teddy's picture the words “Don't trust his lies”. It's one of the most beautiful and at the same time tragic lines I've ever seen. Literally best ending in a movie for me. Absolute masterpiece.
