Holy absolute cinema. Amazing perfomance from both Brad Pitt who's already probably my fav actor till now and Morgan Freeman aswell. Seeing Sommerset and Mills work together with their very different styles was v good.
The difference in ideologies between them was very good to show the two opposite spectrums of humanity, one who has lost all hope in and one who has too much hope in it. It also makes me like more that it never was really fully specified whether the killer was actually insane or not, i think it's probably implied he's not, but he still very well could be, it's never confirmed he's not. So the movie doesn't really tell you who's right between Mills or Sommerset.
Ofcourse the glaring best part of the film is that ending. Absolute masterpiece. The killer slowly breaking away Mills' hope in humanity, his ideology he had the whole film, while Sommerset, the guy who opposed him on that ideology the whole film trying to convince Mills of it, absolute cinema. The acting by Brad Pitt in that scene especially is just soo good. You can like see him struggling, not even wanting to believe what had happened, trying to stay consistent to what he had said earlier, but he just can't, and in that way ig you could say the killer “won”.
If i had to give a complaint it would be that before the ending scene, nothing in the movie really like stood out as spectacular or something. Like, the whole movie was consistently great, but it wasn't like amazing, neither were there any other scenes that stood out as generational like the ending did, that's why I can't give this 5. But yea it was still consistently great the whole time.
