Fallen Angels
"The road wasn't that long, and I knew I'd be getting off soon. But at the moment, I felt such warmth."
Wong Kar-Wai has a very special skill, even more with Fallen Angels, passing through a special and different kind of melancholy and nostalgia for something that never existed. Watching this movie makes you wanna fall in love and enjoy life, the daily life and appreciate the small things.
I remember when I first watched the movie, it made me feel in a way that I've never felt with any other movies. I couldn't stop thinking about it, and that ending is pure gold.
As someone who's a big fan of urban landscapes at night, this movie hits right in the spot, Wong Kar-Wai captured the urban scene of the 90s so perfectly well.
The cinematography and aesthetics, done by Christopher Doyle btw, is something I've never seen before, a really unique style, most shots are at night, with really wide-angle lens, up close shots to the actors, for a very intimate feel with the characters, 35mm film and B&W for that special gritty and grainy look. Can't forget to mention the soundtrack, when the song "Only You" from "The Flying Pickets" at the ending starts playing, it's an instant chills and feelings heavy, really unforgettable, who knew that "Only You" would be perfect for this movie.
Most of the scenes and shots are so beautiful, you could make a wallpaper from it, the scenes in the tunnel with that green colour is ethereal, just something else, every time I see it, I get goosebumps.
With really heavy green and blue tones, emphasizing and making the viewer feel even stronger thanks to something called "Psychology of Colours".
Another movie that I really want to have the physical copy of it.
