Amélie
i genuinely have no idea how i have never watched this movie before but, at the same time, im SO grateful i waited until now and did it today, because it was 100% the right time.
it felt like an honor to take this sneak peek in amelie’s universe, i didn’t want the movie to end.
i feel so connected to her way of seeing the world that surrounds her in her own way through her own eyes, i relate so much. it’s almost inspiring in a way.
the “glass man” is probably the most comforting side character ive ever encountered in a movie. everytime there was a scene of them two together it felt like he was talking to me personally.
« Luck is like the Tour de France. You wait. And it flashes past you. You have to catch it while you can. » this quote. i relate so much. i strongly believe in the whole concept of “if it didn’t happen then it wasn’t meant to happen” but when i have something coming towards me i try my best to catch it as if it was the only possibility i have. carpe diem. live the moment. cause it’s the only way to experience these new things. catch them while they are coming towards me because they were meant to me. there is no such thing as “maybe another time” cause what if there isn’t one? life is now. it made me so happy to see that old man, someone who Amelie cared about deeply, telling her those specific words. and the one in the video he made for her. the impact they had on her… it’s so beautiful what something someone says can do when you trust them. and im so glad Amelie had him.
i loved the way the different side characters stories intertwined and all had the same value at the end. Amelie put everyone else’s happiness in the first place as a distraction while she was running away from herself, scared to face her feelings. and those people were the priority in her life. one by one. she observed and she solved them like they were puzzles. and at the end of the movie, once she got brave and finally listened to her heart, her happiness was associated by everyone else feeling finally good (also thanks to her)
she has such a beautiful soul. everyone’s life is changed, everyone that met her at least once, sees things with a new light. it’s like she leaves a glowing trail as she goes. she makes the world worth to be lived in. and she doesn’t do it to receive something back. she does it because there is good in the world, there is beauty.. everywhere. in everything. in everyone. even when it looks like it’s not there. and if people don’t want to see it we should be the ones to help them bring it out. we are dreamers, we are artists, we are creators. we are in this world to Live, with the capital L and leave a sign. and the best way of doing it is by being ourselves.
« I like to look at things no one else catches. »
it sounds like such a basic concept. and maybe it is in a way. at least for me it is. because i do that all the time. but hearing it from a character in a movie hits different.
i think about all those little girls who at some point in their lives have been inspired by Amelie and this movie. im watching it at 21 years old and it felt like receiving the warmest hug ive ever wished to receive.
this movie teaches life. but not the boring, monotonous and repetitive one like the clients of her bar, it teaches how Life should be: beautiful, magical and new, everyday. and mostly, it teaches that it’s up to us and only us.
enjoy the little things, smile at people in the street, listen to their stories, dance to some random music while walking, take pictures, send letters, buy flowers, keep notes on the fridge, walk in nature, touch things, notice details, pet animals on the street, watch sunsets, dance under the rain, laugh at your mistakes, underline our favorite quotes in a book, life is one and it’s now.
« So, little Amélie, your bones aren’t made of glass. You can take life’s knocks. If you let this chance go by, eventually, your heart will become as dry and brittle as my skeleton. So, go get him, for Pete’s sake! »
