Dune
You‘d make a play for the throne?
This movie is everything it has to be as an introduction to what is to come. The vibes, aesthetic and cinematography is immaculate as is the minimalism and it's huge impact on the way we perceive Arrakis. Also, what an interesting idea that in such a far future we actually don't have machines everywhere but rather expand what the human can do.
The actors and their acting as well give so much to the movie, everyone differentiating the roles within the Imperium. In my opinion Timothée Chalament gives the performance of a lifetime in the Dune series and only in the future will it be recognized and actually seen as one of the greats.
Now to come to the plot - it's demanding but not that difficult to understand, if you pay attention. It made me so hyper-fixated on the world that I bought the books and wanted to find out everything about it. In this movie we only see the beginning of Paul, him getting a reason for revenge and the lust for power without struggling with everything that will come into consideration in Part Two. Here we actually see a big contrast to Paul in Part Two - he is just a young boy, thrown into this world of politics and power without knowing what big role he will play in the future. He is being taught things, like the Bene Gesserit training or having to accompany his father, but he doesn’t desire them, which is why he asks his father what if he isn't the future of the Atreides. But his father tells him
A great man doesn't seek to lead, he's called to it
