Prisoners
Prisoners (2013) is a crime and thriller movie directed by Denis Villeneuve. The film achieved huge successes: it had 10 award wins and 37 nominations including a nomination for an Oscar.
Hugh Jackman stars as Keller Dover, a father of two children, and after his young daughter mysteriously disappears he decides to take matters into his own hands, thinking Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) who is a detective, and the police won't find his daughter.
Even though the film is pretty long, it is a suspenseful, gritty, thought-provoking cinematic masterpiece. The acting is incredibly well, especially Hugh Jackman's portrayal of Keller Dover with whom you can sympathise and Jake Gyllenhaal who did a marvellous job playing the frustrated detective. The film doesn't use jump scares to thrill the audience, but rather, moments of silence and stillness.
I wouldn't say I recommend this film if you don't have a good stomach (there are some intense, hard to watch scenes) and I would not recommend this film to children, but to everyone else this movie is a must-watch. One of the best films I saw, and in my opinion, the best movie starring Hugh Jackman.
