Obsession
Edit: Changed rating to 5 from 4½
Wow, okay. I had to sit with this film the entire night and half of today to process it (there's just so much goddamn detail.)
I don't think people truly understand this film. Obsession is about Bear's obsession with Nikki and the lengths he can go to to take away her autonomy. On the surface, it may look like Nikki being the 'freak' as the guys in the film label her, anyone purely watching this on the surface will say that, but in fact - it's the exact opposite.
Like, I don't even need to go too much into detail, I'm sure everyone else's feed is also popping up with easter eggs and things you missed while watching this - but the actual horror was the real Nikki trying to communicate through to Bear that she does not want this, yet he strips away everything. He's not inherently a bad guy in the beginning, but as it keeps rolling, he starts to lose his humanity slowly.
If only he was able to show vulnerability. If only he was able to talk about his feelings. If only he talked. You cannot force something that isn't there - because if you do, then it's just not real.
Poor girl's gonna wake up at the end, probably gonna be in jail for life for triple homicide and mentally traumatized for life - just because an idiot couldn't express how he felt.
Absolutely loved it, might even go for a rewatch.
