Before Sunrise
This is one of the greatest movies ever made.
I don’t even know where to start with this film. Maybe I resonate with it so much because I am so close in age to Jesse and Celine in this first movie and can relate to so much of what they speak about, but I truly think no matter who you are, this movie will hit you like a truck. I could go on and on about a million things I love about this movie, the direction, the cinematography, the music, the acting, the realism of it all, literally everything about it. I’ve never had a movie make me cry on both a first watch and a rewatch, but there’s a first time for everything I guess.
The chemistry between Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy as Jesse and Celine is so incredible it is almost sickening and their conversations are not only important thirty years after the film’s release but so self aware that they left me feeling the exact same way if not more strongly than I did the first time I watched this movie. The scene in the cemetery, the scene on the boat, the scene in the restaurant, the scene in the park, the scene at the train station, the empty shots at the end, everything.
What a phenomenal movie, an absolute must watch for anyone and everyone.
“Later.”
