Brokeback Mountain
“The truth is, sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it.”
If there is one movie that will make me tear up every single time I watch it, it’s Brokeback Mountain. It’s really hard to put into words what this movie means to me. It’s heartbreaking and devastating yet I love every single second of it. The story, the visuals, the music, the characters, the world building, everything about Brokeback is incredible.
This film is probably the film that got me so invested in cinema, particularly queer cinema, so it holds a very special place in my heart. It also is a large part of the reason we can have so many depictions of gay relationships in film in the present and for that I’m so thankful. Without Brokeback Mountain, there wouldn’t be a Call Me By Your Name, there wouldn’t be a Love, Simon, there wouldn’t be a Moonlight, or at least, their popularity and exposure would not come anywhere close to reaching the heights they did. This film reignited Queer Cinema after New Queer Cinema came and went in the 1990s and it doesn’t get enough credit for it. Brokeback Mountain is absolutely revolutionary.
