Challengers

This is probably the coolest sports movie I’ve ever seen. I just love so much about it. The soundtrack is really great, the characters are all enjoyable yet insufferable in their own ways and some of the shots are just so damn cool. I really love the camera work here, some of it might fall flat but when it hits, it really hits hard. Patrick’s character is just so awesome too, I think his contrast with Art is so interesting because Art is so two dimensional and Patrick is anything but. I’m such a big fan of how Patrick’s interest in Art is portrayed throughout the film too. The way Patrick watches Art and not Tashi in the hotel room at the beginning, the way he looks at him in every scene they’re in close quarters, it was always Art for him and I love the subtlety about it, and sometimes even the lack thereof. This is such a cool movie with such interesting character dynamics, we need more sports movies like this.
