The Apprentice
I am very confused by this movie. It’s very strange that someone tried making a 70s gangster movie about Donald Trump and even stranger that its cinematography is actually remarkable. I find it peculiar that generationally-wealthy New York industry mogul Donald J Trump is portrayed as a down-on-his-luck Travis Bickle type who learns and grows on his way to the top but whatever. The point of the film is almost certainly to expose him as an immoral swindler but most people already know that and by making him the protagonist, the audience is inevitably going to connect with him in a way that humanizes his actions which I guess is nice? Maybe? I do like how it’s not politically in-your-face like it absolutely could have been. It felt more character-driven than preachy which I earnestly applaud. I don’t know man, if this movie wasn’t as visually appealing, it would totally fall flat and be very forgettable.
