Three Kings
I’m hard pressed to find a movie that more successfully navigates tonal shift than Three Kings does. The 1st act straddles between war satire and buddy heist. Following the retrieval of the bullion the movie pivots into a sensitive and politically conscious drama about American imperialism and capitalistic greed. It still finds it moments of levity, choosing them wisely and never selling out the emotional core of the film.
One of the best and most predictive movies of the 90s made at the turn of the millennium. Love love love everything about it.
