Moonlight
To me, what this movie does with the mother character is perfect and the most relatable part of the story. She was clearly a young mom who wasn’t ready to have a kid. She’s a terrible parent and knows she raised her son horribly, but she also understands that she ruined part of his life and made it hard for him to trust anyone.
That scene where she apologizes to him really feels like the moment she finally realizes how bad of a mother she was, and it gives her a bit of redemption.
stories this are never really told, and this movie does a great job showing it. the acting is insane and the cinematography is great. For me, it was very deservant of best picture.
